The IP (Ingress Protection) rating tells you how well your device is protected against dust and water. The first number (usually 6) means it is fully dust-tight. The second number tells you about water resistance. '8' means it can be submerged in fresh water (usually up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes). However, this does NOT mean your phone is 'waterproof' in all conditions. Chlorine in pools, salt in the ocean, and high-pressure jets (like dropping it while waterskiing) can easily bypass these seals. Always treat IP ratings as an insurance policy against accidents, not an invitation to take your phone swimming.
